With the rapid growth of the language and speech industry, there is an increasing need for specialists able to work in multi-disciplinary projects combining elements of speech processing, natural language processing, and computer science.
The content of this Postgraduate Course is part of an innovative curriculum in the framework of a European Masters in Language and Speech. The course provides the theoretical and practical background required to obtain the qualification for efficient team work in modern language and speech engineering. In collaboration with the University of Geneva, this unique curriculum provides an extensive introduction to the major areas of speech and language technology. Strengthening inter-disciplinary connections, it includes lectures on speech signal processing, speech and speaker recognition, and natural language processing, introductions to language engineering applications, and linguistic training for language and speech engineers. |

This course should be of direct interest to all people, including university level graduate students and industry representatives (with a sufficient university degree), involved (or planning to be involved) in research and/or development works related to speech and language engineering. Given its multi-disciplinary nature, the cycle is also open to students with different backgrounds, and consequently different university degrees, provided they have some minimum pre-requisites and a motivated interest in language technology. Finally, for people simply interested in extending their knowledge in some specific areas, each course will also be proposed as an independent module. |
|
You are required to have a degree from a Swiss Federal Institute of Technology or University, or another equivalent diploma. Experience in programming and basic knowledge in computer science is required. |
|
Candidates who complete successfully the complete course and project will receive a "certificat de spécialisation postgrade en informatique". |

The present Postgraduate Course can be taken as a partial fulfilment of the Swiss implementation of the European Masters in Language and Speech endorsed by the European Speech Communication Association and the European Chapter of the Association for Computational Linguistics. The students of the postgraduate course will be given the possibility to complement their postgraduate curriculum in order to fulfill all requirements of the "Masters" (45 ECTS credits of courseload and 15 ECTS credits of project) and receive the corresponding European certificate. The project realized in the postgraduate curriculum will be recognized as the Euromasters project work (typically three months). It is also foreseen that the Euromaster students will be given the possibility to meet with the other students involved in similar programs implemented in the other European partner universities in the framework of a European school. |
